My husband served in the USMC “Oorah Devil Dogs!” When it come to the Corps bday I usually make him a special dinner and treat. He enlisted right after high school and once he graduated bootcamp we decided to get married. So yes, 3 months out of high school we were newly weds. 💒 That also means being by his side through workups, deployments, standing watch, etc. Definitely some tough times but worth it! Even though he’s out, the Corp will is always be important to us. With that being said I’ve lost track of everything I’ve done camo and military inspired- lol
For these cookies I used a simple sugar cookie dough. I always use Wilton’s gel food dye for cookies. I’ve used others but I’m use to how well it mixes and getting the colors I’m trying to achieve.
I start by dividing the dough into 4 sections. I usually leave the most amount of dough undyed. I make 1 green and 1 brown section. Lastly, a smaller amount of black. I hope that makes sense. You can always add more dye as needed, but it would be almost impossible to lighten the darker colors if you ended up with too much! I take little chunks and roll them together (tried to take a pic below). You can then cut out your cookies. I add on by just adding more fresh dough to build out the sides as I roll. Then they are ready to bake. I just follow my regular sugar cookie baking time. For the decorating I used a chocolate icing that dries hard and used the USMC’s birth date, sayings, etc. to customize them. He was in a helicopter squadron 🙂 🚁So, the first cookie is a rough attempt at their logo.
Happy Birthday Marines!
