Can you believe another port today! Time to get our hiking shoes laced up. 👟 We are heading out into the beautiful Patagonia forest.
With just a short tender and a 15 minute bus ride we were at Aiken del Sur Park in no time! This is a private park and had a nice information center with a few displays and phamplets to help identify some of the few things you may see along the way. The trails were also nicely marked and specific fauna and flora had plaque identifiers.
We hiked our way through winding river trails. It was wonderful to be submersed in this beautiful place. The trail lead us to a waterfall and we even saw to very special birds (Hued Hued and Chucao)! I just wasn’t fast enough to focus my lens and get a good pic. 🙁
We continued hike and work our way to several great lookout points.
By the time we had completed our loop a local venue was preparing a typical Patagonian barbecue. Which takes hours to cook over an open fire pit. While the food was being plated we learned about culture and watched folkloric dancers perform. After working up an appetite the traditional bbq lamb, homemade bread, local veggies, were perfect. And were accompanied by Chilean wines and a classic dessert!
After a day of hiking and completely full it’s time to head back to the ship.
It looks like we have a couple of days to relax on the Sun as we anticipate the highlight of our trip, penguins! We heard at the beginning of the trip they started migrating 😟 We are hoping there will still be some on the island by the time we get there!
