I was in search of penguin ornaments this year and had a really hard time finding any! I happened to be at the craft store and saw felt penguin that were gift tags. That’s what inspired this little project. Instead of buying a bunch of gift tags (that would of all looked the same) I decided to grab some material and make them.
Here’s what I used:
- Black, charcoal, light gray felt (2 sheets each)
- White felt (3 sheets)
- Black, yellow and orange puff paint
- Craft glue/hot glue
Time to try and make a felt penguin. 🐧
I started out by making a rough sketch of the body and belly. There are also lots of clipart images you could print out and use. I folded the felt into sections which helped to cutout multiple pieces at a time. The felt for the body I was able to get 6 sheet and 8 bellies on white.I cleaned up the edges as I glued them. That also helped to make them slightly different. (The glue dries clear)To keep it simple I used puff paint for the eyes, beak and feet. While they dried I cut some strips of twine. With a dot of hot glue I added a loop on the back. Time to add them to the tree! They are so cute! The felt penguins are simple to make and definitely a project you could turn into a family craft!
Warmest wishes for a wonderful holiday season!🐧🐧🐧
