After our Hopeless Heavenly experience we were set on making up for it with a new excursion. We decided to head to Kirkwood for the day. The resort is tucked away and a hidden gem! At the resort it was quiet, beautiful weather, the trails were wide open and covered in fluffy snow. I’ve mentioned it before but we are not very experienced. Some of the trails were a bit difficult even though they were marked easy. However, if you have some skill it seems like you could really enjoy this place! ⛷️ Spending our day here was well worth it. Kirkwood would be our first pick compared to Heavenly. The parking was free and close, plus, NO gondola to deal with. The trails that we used at both resorts seemed comparable. Kirkwood’s resort amenities seemed basic, no downtown casinos or major restaurants. It’s definitely less flashy, but we go to play in the snow and don’t care much for frills. I’m giving it 4 out of 5 snowflakes ❄️❄️❄️❄️! Mainly because I’ve never seen beginner trails that end or merge with moguls (we did a lot of sliding)! 😲 The worst part of Kirkwood wasn’t the resort, but getting there. The GPS was off by at least an hour if not more due to winding roads and sharp curves. When we left a storm was coming in. Being tired from our snow day coupled with that drive was a bit much. If you are making it into a day trip the curvy commute is something to consider! But that’s what helps keep Kirkwood Mountain Resort a Hidden Gem!
We forgot to charge our GoPro 🙁 so I don’t have any pics of the fluffy playground we just enjoyed!
