Yay! Our first port excursion is here. Time to venture out and explore Puerto Montt, Chile. For this cruise we decided to book all our excursions through the cruise line. This one was called the “Photographer’s Dream.” Up bright and early we met at the designated tour area, took a quick tender to shore, and found the tour bus. As you can see we were greeted with overcast, but a nice ride through the country still meant pretty views.
Our first stop for the day was Rosales National Park where we boarded a catamaran “Lagos Andinos” for a cruise on Lake Todos los Santos. This lake is also know as Lake Esmeralda because of its vivid, blue-green color. With the lack of sun it was a bit hard to capture the dazzling hues. The large lake was surrounded by lush green mountains and the low cloud cover gave it a whole new look.
Back on the bus we headed to our next stop Vicente Perez Rosales National Park. With the clouds starting to lift the enchanting blue-green water is starting to show. 💙💚 We hiked to Petrohue Falls to see the gushing water cut through the volcanic rock.
Then we were back on the bus and it’s time to eat. We made our way to Puerto Varas for a delicious lunch paired with the perfect drink “pisco sour.” Chile and Peru both claim this as their drink but it’s a classic and a must try. The pisco sours were very refreshing. It reminded me of lemonade having the sweet and sour components. Of course, there’s no egg whites in your lemonade! And for the liquor… well… I’ll leave that up to you 😉🍹
Lastly, we visited the charming town of Frutillar, a village founded by German settlers. We spent our afternoon enjoying coffee, shopping, taking in the stunning views of Lake Llanquihue, and trying local honey. With the beautiful weather back you can see both volcanos across the lake.
The ulmo trees are one of the only flowering trees in the fall. The bees flock to them and it makes the honey have a distinct flavor. To me it seemed like it had a hint of vanilla and it was very creamy.
We had a day filled with stops exploring beautiful Puerto Montt, Chille. It’s time to make our way back to the ship!
The pilot boat is leading us out. That means we are on our way to the next adventure and it’s time to reset! We have another excursion tomorrow in Puerto Chacabuco where we are going to do some exploring of Patagonia.
