This t-shirt bird toy is simple to make. If you have a bird you know they’re such busy bodies. Being able to make some homemade toys are not only helpful but can save some money.
I’ve shared in the past we’ve had some trouble with our Triton Cockatoo, Sunny. She has an eating issue and has a tendency to eat her wood toys. Of course chewing is expected but she’ll stop eating both her Zupreem and seeds. I have to watch her carefully when I give her traditional wood parrot toys to make sure she eats enough. I’m always on the lookout for wood free toys and this has been a wonderful option for her! I wanted to pass this t-shirt bird toy along for those in search of some simple DIYs to keep your parrot happy and having fun!
**Like all toys you need to watch your bird to make sure they are playing with this safely and works for them.
Let’s get started making our homemade T-shirt Bird Toy~
The materials I used
- Old tank tops/t-shirts
- Chain and clip (were saved from another toy)
- Filler items like the plastic hearts, rawhide, etc. Start by cutting all the shirts into strips. I make various widths. What’s great about this is you can make several at once and different color combos! I use old clothing but wash it first to make sure it’s free of fabric softeners.Once my fabric is cut I knot it around the chain. And make it really filled and fluffy. You can see her in the background just waiting!!! ❤️Adding on some fun filler by tying it to the end of the fabric strips. It’s ready for play time! Sunny is already eyeing it. She loves her toys. ❤️🐦❤️Hope this helps bring some fun to your feathered friend!
**A little tip if your bird is scared of a new toy. Hang it on the outside of their cage first. It gives them time to warm up to something new before it comes into their home.
